Founders - Prioritising your Time!

Welcome Founders!

Today, a SHORT article on how to make the most of your time, because, if you’re in the same boat as most of the Founders we talk to, you’re probably working long hours and wondering if you can ever catch up!

Your available time is limited, so the main question is how do you prioritise so that the most important actions are dealt with first. In this article, we’re assuming that you have already been through the steps to Focus your Business, so you already have an action plan listing all the important tasks.

  1. Your time is worth $1000 per hour

Let’s be clear - you’re not getting $1000 in cash. However, in most startups you, as the Founder, need to focus on actions which enable you to make that $1000 back in the future, as soon as possible. As the keeper of the business strategy, key salesperson and key operator/delivery person, you really need to ask yourself whether spending your time entering supplier invoices, dealing with expenses etc is really adding that level of value.

  2. Spend time to save time
We’re sure that there is a list of things that you’ve been GOING to do which will save you time or stress going forward. It might be something like writing down a checklist to ensure delivery items don’t get forgotten, writing up that job ad, training someone else to enter supplier invoices or even just writing down what you or the team need to do next week to keep everything running smoothly.

As your business grows, you CANNOT do everything yourself. The more you take steps to save yourself time now, the more likely you will have the processes for incoming people in place when you need them.

  3. Check yourself
Whatever method works for you, be it a Post-It on a screen, another of your team (if you have one), a business coach, friend, electronic reminders or whatever, find a way to ensure that your top 3 things to do this week get done.

We’re keen to hear how you deal with your time, so please let us know!
